Ada apa dengan ShinsShin strongly supports any effort to protect our little freedom of expression. CIJ is organising this workshop, whose objective is to impart information about the various laws in Malaysia that aim to regulate cyberspace. These laws potentially threaten freedom of expression on the Internet especially the blog-o-sphere. Despite government pledges not to censor the Internet, the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, action against Jeff Ooi and Mack Zulkifli, among others, warrants precautionary steps by bloggers.

Date Saturday, 1 July 2006

Venue Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ)
27-C, Jalan Sarikei
off Jalan Pahang Barat
53000 Kuala Lumpur
(location map)

Time 9.30 am - 4.30 pm

Speaker Sonia Randhawa, Executive Director, CIJ

Fee None Whatsoever

Equipping yourself with information is one of the best way to protect your rights to freedom of expression. We look forward to your participation in the workshop.

i am wondering why did Minishorts tag Menjadi-jadi, and Menjadi-jadi tag me.
i just wish they don’t spread any web-borne virus to me.
i said thank you Nurin and CheguBard, Pengkalan Pasir was fun.
i want to rid our beloved Malaysia of fundies, extremists and terrorists.
i wish those idiots can stop accusing Keadilan of being Pas’ partner in crime in Islamic state.
i hate the fact that Keadilan have to stuck in this marriage of inconvenience.
i miss drinking tea with Budu, Alvin and Bob in mamak near my house.
i fear nothing eventhough dudes advised me not to be so outspoken.
i hear Israeli toddlers crying everytime lunatics carry out homicide bombing.
i wonder whether disengagement from Strip and Bank reduces or encourages violence.
i regret Hamas winning Palestinian Parliament, not that I like Fatah.
i am thinking if I should attend SDP’s Roadmap to Democracy workshop tomorrow.
i sing Siti Nurhaliza’s Biarlah Rahsia when oppositions won 8 seats in Sarawak.
i cry when I couldn’t find my darling’s shweetly-written letter to me.
i am worried that my birthday present might reach her after her birthday.
i made my sweetie a hand-made birthday card two years ago, but nothing this year.
i write rarely now that we have keyboards.
i confused Izzah from Imaan, and said “Owh, your in-law” when Budu mentioned Izzah’s dad.
i need to learn more from people like Clarissa, Hasmi and Fathi, they are amazing.
i should promote Yee Aun’s blog since he’s really talented and opiniated.
i start to know Yeen Fern when she emailed me her Malaysiakini survey.

I really love this song, 李彩樺的我愛雨天。 It recharges my tired self, day in day out. I feel energitic after listening to it. Those who wish to grab the Music Video please contact Menjadi-jadi.

Days ago, Menjadi-jadi published a so-called satire designed by a fellow stakeholder in an extremist Muslim version of Answering Islam site, which was meant for soliciting donations. The so-called satire called for destruction of Christianity faith, among others.

The Malaysian blogging public reacted passionately on this. Menjadi-jadi, now under fire, decided against my good advice to block Malaysian visitors’ access to his blog. To show solidarity to my fellow countrymen, I decided to self-impose a ban on visiting Menjadi-jadi’s blog, eventhough my Internet Protocol (IP) was not among the range he banned.

I hate to let this Menjadi-jadi dude occupy too much of my space. Yet, I need to discuss it slightly, from the perspective of equality among all religions, as well as the attitude of some extremists.

If you are into cute and clean photos of young chics, here you go. I got it from another friend, who said it must be shared as it’s a great compilation that you should not miss.

We should really be grateful to those who put in much effort that make contents in the internet flourish. Kudos to whoever contributed much of their time and energy for our enjoyment ! Not for the hardcore lovers though.

Also, allow me to quote two friends who gave distinctly refreshing responses. First, Rajan Seri MENJadi-jadi, who said,

“Eh, next time tell me first if you wanna send me such content when I’m in daddy’s office.”
Second, my dear friend Kian Keat, who keeps the legacy of my old designer’s template alive,
“Wow, young meimeis nowadays are very brave !”

Since May 2005, the old template has been part of my life, rain or shine. She’s just like my concubine (of course my significant other is still my dearest, no doubt).

Based on a framework I found elsewhere, I gave her a major overhaul and I am proud to call her my first ever designer’s template. I tried viewing her with Internet Explorer and Netscape, apart from the Firefox that I usually use, and she displayed perfectly.

It took me almost all my onlining time for 3 days. And I love her very much, especially the background picture that stood still while scrolling. It was inspired by the short-lived lifestyle blog I had in blog.yam.com/shinshin.

Anyway, time moves on, so are we. It’s time to have a fresh start, after a long hiatus. Perhaps a new template will motivate me to write more eagerly. However, being so nostalgic I am, I retained a lot of the features in my old designer’s template.

Sejak lama lagi susah payah aku carikan gambar bulatan menara jam yang berdekatan warung keluarga makwe aku kat Kota Bharu tapi tak bertuah… Pagi tadi baru je ku bangun, ternampak Yahoo Messenger tengah blinking.

This is the sequal of my Da Vinci entry, albeit going astray. I wished to discussed Leonardo Da Vinci, Monalisa, or maybe San Greal, Priory of Sion, Opus Dei and Catholicism, yet, the focus turned to piracy.

When I was accused by Eliar Shiftfire for spreading pirated copies of Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, I have made myself clear in reply, that e-books are just for sneak preview. For those who cherish the author’s effort, please go and buy.

Afterwords, fellow blogger David The Katana dropped by with his comments.

Politician, political observer and award-winning journalist, James Wong Wing On, with many feathers in his cap, for instance ex-Political Secretary for Opposition Leader, Member of Parliament for Kampar 1990-1995, ex-Senior Staff Writer of Sinchew who was the receipant of Malaysia Press Institute (MPI)’s Excellent Journalist Award for 1998 and 1999, just to name a few, and currently Chief Analyst of Malaysiakini’s Strategy Analysis Malaysia, has begun to chronicle his exciting life and sharp opinions through blogging. Selamat Datang ke dunia blogging !

Two distinctive blogs he has established. First, Freedom in Solidarity, contains a huge collection of many photographs, old and new, mostly about people and places he has visited while carrying out his assignments as journalist or politician. From Kampar to Kathmandu, from Manila to Muscat, his footprints can be traced.

Accompanying each picture is a caption, from which the background story of the story would be told. One may get a glimpse into the thoughts of this man, on worldly issues ranging form Operasi Lalang to Vietnam War and CPM’s violent armed rebellion which he passionately romanticised as campaigns “to liberate our land from fascism and colonialism”.

Mona Lisa, some said it’s self-portrait of Leonardo Da Vinci. Some claimed that its name found its roots in Amon and Isis, god and goddess on ancient Egypt and Greek.

I’ve been indulging myself in The Da Vinci Code, the Danish Brownish bestseller. From Priory of Sion to Opus Dei, Holy Grail and Mary Magdalene, it’s really an automatic page turner. Or rather, the spirit is in me. There’s still much for me to learn about my own agama.

A fantastic novel not to be missed. Unlike Mona Lisa which may fetch over billion dollars, knowledge is free. It has been given to many, the latest being Tilia, and it’s still available for all of you. English in pdf and Chinese in doc.Please bear in mind that it’s meant for sneak preview only. Get the real book, if you have fallen in love with it, like me.

On the path of learning to learn something everyday :-)

I don’t know why certain quarters here tend to say silly things and paint themselves in a bad light during the double celebration. Deeparaya is Deeparaya, no more no less, just to show how harmonious the Malaysian society can be (albeit sometimes merely superficial or plainly imaginative) during the festive seasons.

Nevertheless, I think Rajan Seri MENJ is right in one thing. Nobody can stop the others from minding their own business. Hindus can go on to celebrate Deepavali no matter how this idiotic good friend of mine and yang sewaktu dengannya called Hindu the faith that indulges in polytheism or idol worshipping. For this alone, we will consider upgrading MENJ’s Rajanship to Rajan Seri Paduka.

I too have a query, one only. Mamu is against mixing Holy Islam of Allah Almighty with faiths that indulges in polytheism or idol worshipping, such as Hindu or Buddhism or Taoism. So, does he mean it’s alright to mix the agama langits ? Shouldn’t be a problem to have Natalraya, to mark the birth of Yesus Kristus of Nazareth together with Eid-al-fitr, or Pesachraya, to commemorate Israelites’ keluaran dari Mesir (exodus from Egypt) under the leadership of Nabi Musa together with Eid-al-fitr ? If we can mix the food, the kuih-muihs, why not the names ? After all, there’s nothing beyond mixing the names !

Last night, Alvin who changed his template asked me, what are the codes of “Recent entries” for Wordpress blogs.

Eventhough Blogsome is running on Wordpress content management system (CMS), its codes are very different from a true Wordpress blog. We searched through the Wordpress support forum but couldn’t find anything helpful.

Finally, I asked Idlan, who was kind enough to help us before getting ready for breaking fast. Thank you Idlan ! :-)

For anyone who need the codes, you have it here !

<!–This will show the last 10 posts, including the last one. To change the number of post shown edit the ‘nuberposts=x’ to whatever value you want, and to skip the last one (or last 2, 3, etc.) increase the value of ‘offset=x’ (default is “0″ so it will start by the last post)–>

<ul>
<?php $posts = get_posts(’numberposts=10&offset=0′); foreach ($posts as $post) : ?>
<li>
<a href=”<?php the_permalink(); ?>” title=”<?php the_title() ?>”><?php the_title() ?></a>
</li>
<?php endforeach; ?>
</ul>

<!– End of Activity –>

Also, thanks to Budu that solved my problem on how to display raw codes here. Before this, the codes couldn’t be shown as raw codes, because they were translated into the effect of what the codes represented. Thus, Budu suggested me to change all the < and > into their respective Html codes, namely & l t ; and & g t ; … It works ! Thanks Budu ! :-)

YB Fong Po Kuan, MP for Batu Gajah, has moved into her new home in the blogging world. Alvin must be frustrated, as Bob failed to inform him that you can use Wordpress here in Blogsome for free, and instead made him bought his own domain and hosting :-P

Po Kuan’s entries are really fantastic. A lot of everyday problems have been disclosed, especially the red tapes and bureaucrazy of our Cemerlang, Mohd Isa Gemilang, Khairy Jamaluddin Terbilang govermnent. Things that marhaens like you and me can relate to.

Yes, you know what I wanted to say. Exactly ! I just wanted to say, Po Kuan’s blog is much more interesting than that of her *Thank you for parachutting on us* tauke, whom the expired medicine labelled as “expired medicine“. I first thought Kit’s blog would be a mahligai of kenyataan akhbars. I was proven wrong. It was actually mostly commentaries on currents events, cuma, written in kenyataan akhbar style :-)

As I have said earlier, voters do know that things such as human rights, press freedom etc are somehow important too, but they failed to contextualize it into how are they going to suffer, due the absence of these rights. By raising the everyday local issues, it will be easier for laymen to realise how are they exploited by the rejim kuku besi. So politicians, make your priorities right !

Selamat naik umah baru, Po Kuan !

This is a community service announcement by ShinShin for the benefit of all. Just received this in e-mail from Atok of Tuturan Alambina :-)

Assalamualaikum all,

On Sunday 16hb yg lalu, adik saya telah dengan selamatnya memulakan perniagaan beliau di Carrefour Subang Jaya Food Court. Jika ingin menikmati hidangan tradisional Kelantan, sila ke Stall No. 10 - ‘Rasa Kelantan’. Alhamdulillah, first day hari tu, semua habis waktu berbuka; nasi kerabu, nasi dagang etc. Keropok lekor pun ada. Most probably he won’t be there during office hours though (still keeps his day job).

My dad just called me. Among others, he has visited my blog, albeit just a short while.

He was busy as usual, had little to go through my entries. Some more, mixing up with writings of Farish Noor and the likes, he was confused if I was so capable of writing such masterpieces, hahaha. (To minimise confusion, all third party articles syndicated here have been moved to the Superb Stories menu…)

Instead of commenting on my entries, he chose to show his dissatisfaction regarding my design. Yes, especially the party logo, which he is very uncomfortable with. According to him,

“You should not position yourself as such…”

Hmm… I don’t know how many of them have watched it, and how many of them still remember it. For me, it’s best remembered for the gamelan music.

Director Shuhaimi Baba had a hard time in making the film, first Malaysian dracula film in 30 years, thanks to Censorship Board’s requirements, which included that pontianak could only appear in dreams, and that there should be no excessive horror scenes. It has been chronicled in the Director’s Note.

Perhaps we should opt for a pontianak who is as cute as Hello Kitty ?

I just visited the film’s official site. There aresome promo posters, you may wish to take a glimpse at it. Nothing horrorble at all. There are altogether 5 of them, 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5. If you wish, why don’t take a look at their teaser (wmv format) too ?

Is Kak Teh going to write the script for its sequel ? :-)
