I found this little sandwich joint, at the junction in the middle of Deep Cove’s two blocks of town center, it’s 1-ish in the afternoon, a cloudy 3°C afternoon, January 23, 2006, Canada’s federal election day.

Most shops were closed. Those opened were like, hair saloon, or fashion boutique.
A punk stood in front of this sandwich place, trying to light his ciggie, but apparently without much success, so he resorted to create some sparks by a tool which is used to light up torches. I talked to him, asked how does the food in this place taste. This is the only decent makan place here in Deep Cove, I realised.
“Very good, I like their sandwiches especially.”
Welcome to Deep Cove, in the District of West Vencouver. I came here by transfering 2 buses. First time from 407 to 98 B Line in Richmond Centre, and from 98 B Line to 411 in Burrand Station, downtown Vancouver. It took me like, maybe an hour an a half, passing through the Second Narrows Bridge (or Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Bridge).
Of course. What else could you like. They serve no burgers or fish and chips, only sandwiches.
And also pasta, I should add. For 2 more bucks, you get a soup of the day too.
“Today is my wife’s birthday, she turns 79 today…”
An old guy who just entered the shop after me, settled down at the table next to me, said.
“45 years ago, I have found Jesus. He said, I am the way. He gives life to all of us…”
“I don’t believe in religions. I believe in God. Why Roman Catholics or Protestants and whatnots…”
“Alhamdulilah you still believe in Allah subhanallahi wa taallah !” I was thinking, silently
“People are selfish. They don’t care for each other. But Jesus has shown us that we have to love each other, the way we love ourselves.”
“If I am driving home and I see smoke coming out from houses, and people screaming ‘fire !’, they would think, ‘I hope it’s my neighbours’ houses, not mine’…”
“But if we love our neighbours, we should think, ‘I hope it’s my house’, so my neighbours won’t suffer…”
Owh, what a lunatic I’ve bumped into… Even my bigot friend, Mullah Elfie Nieshaem Juferi, who despises his being a Malay, as if dilutes his Islamic credentials (if any), don’t talk all these crappy stuffs to me.
Not to bore me to death, he tried to ask me some stuff, “Does it snow in Malaysia ?”
My sandwiches was great good. I like the slices of Montreal Smoked Meat. But I hate the fact that they don’t come with a plateful of french fries (notwithstanding the fact that I ain’t a Francophone), like those I had in Horseshoe Bay and Steveston days earlier, in which I could pour in tonnes of chilli sauce.
The soup of the day turned out to be (negligible) Chicken and (lotsa) Beans Soup with Noodle. Downed within a minute.
I made sure the old lunatic preacher (he can’t be a priest, as he call Catholics ‘people who worship Pope’) had gone far enough when I went to pay at the counter. The boss said, “I am not going to charge you for the lecture…”… What a so sarcastic dude.
This is a hilly seaside town, where town centre (two blocks) is located by the sea and houses lined all the way uphill. I assigned myself an uphill task of climbing uphill and try to take some nice pics. It’s misty and even hujan renyai-renyai at times. Many points where panoramic photos could have taken were unfortunately had their views blocked by power lines. You could see some more houses beside the bay, in the middle of lotsa lotsa trees.
Indian Arm is an extension of the Burrand Inlet, a fjord that cut North and West Vancouvers from it’s downtown core. Across the Arm, it’s the cities of Burnaby, Port Moody as well as the village of Belcarra. Deep Cove is surrounded by Indian Arm in all three sides. There’s a marina by the town, where a lot of rich people anchor their yachts. I tried my best to bring you some exclusive pictures, in the cold chilling wind…
A small bay is located in the Deep Cove, where a marina is located. The village to the north of this little bay is more dense, while those to the south is more faraway, dotting the forest.
I’ve sent these pics to my cute meimei, who has recently got herself a new blogskin. She replied and said, “You look so cute in the jacket, like detectives…” Hmm, thanks…

View from the village in the hill top, with marina in the little bay.

Town centre with hill top village in the background. Many shops were closed.

Little houses in the wood, at the south of the little bay with Belcarra in the background, covered under thick mist faraway across the Indian Arm.

Houses dotting the village in the north of little bay, with numerous yachts in the marina.

Be careful of black bears.
